Guerilla Art Safari Show

Vice Clothing Store
May 2001

I started taking photographs of graffiti in 1997. The art I found while walking to and from work captured my attention and, since I figured it wouldn't last long, I decided to record it on film.

Graffiti has technically existed since cave paintings and today modern spray-can art is very popular in underground culture. Most common are words rendered graphically but other imagery is usually inspired by tattoos, comic books, cubism, pop culture, Celtic knots and fonts. Although there is an abundance of sprayed images, a wide range of media is also used including stickers, flyers, stencils, chalk, marker and etchings.

Whatever the medium or the message, this guerilla art is created and displayed for anyone who happens to find it, like treasures hidden right under our noses.
